How much does therapy with Auburn Therapy associates Cost?
Depending on the provider, we charge between $80-150 for a 50-minute session but can work with you on a sliding scale fee to ensure you get the treatment you need
Why Does therapy cost so much?
We spend money on many things that might not yield a return, such as eating out, hobbies that we wanted to try, TV and streaming services that we barely watch, etc., but when it comes to taking care of our mental, emotional, and relational health, we often do not seek out advice or professional help. These issues, if not dealt with properly, can not only wreak financial havoc on our own lives, but also on our careers, families, and our physical health. Much like we go to get regular physical check-ups, our brains and relationships need check-ups too. The average cost of gym memberships, divorce, mediation, custody battles, etc. can range in the hundreds of dollars. Therapy then, is an investment and protection against the damages that can occur.
How Long does therapy take?
Although dependent on your motivation and commitment, the presenting issue, and how hard you work, many of our clients can achieve their goals in 8-20 sessions.
I'VE BEEN TO THERAPY BEFORE, BUT IT WASN'T HELPFUL. HOW DO I KNOW THIS WON'T BE THE SAME?
Successful therapy is a mix of a lot of factors, but one of the most important is therapist fit. We will work with you and assess what worked or didn't work before, and ensure that we won't do (or do more of) the same. If it doesn't feel right, we will help to refer you to someone else, with no questions asked. We appreciate transparency and hold ourselves to the same standard!
what do you charge for late cancellations or missed appointments and why?
Because we have packed schedules, everyone on our calendar needs help. If you cancel last-minute or don't show up, it takes slots away from others in need of treatment. So we charge the full session fee unless notified at least 24 hours ahead of time or in the event of an emergency.
Do you take insurance?
Presently, we do not take insurance. Insurance companies require a diagnosis to work with you and pay for therapy. This diagnosis follows and stays with you and can be shared with other insurance companies (life insurance, health, etc.). Insurance companies can also limit the ways in which your therapist can help you by telling you how many sessions you have and can even limit which modality is okay to use. Research shows that when people pay out-of-pocket, they have more emotional investment in therapy and the change process. Finally, not taking insurance allows us to be flexible with our fees (sliding scale), and many insurance companies only reimburse a certain amount.
What forms of payment do you take?
We currently accept credit or debit from all major credit card companies (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc.) through our payment portal.
What is teletherapy like and What should I do to Prepare?
Teletherapy can be just as good as face-to-face therapy. In fact, some clients have found they are more open and honest over video conferencing than in-person.
we recommend that prior to each session, you make sure your webcam and internet connection are in good condition. Make sure your volume is on.
We recommend the use of headphones and that you find a room where you can be alone behind a closed door, with as little distraction as possible. You may also want to set up a noise machine outside of the room and put a “do not disturb” sign on the door to protect your privacy. It is not recommended that children or pets be in the room, as they can distract from your teletherapy experience.
It will also be helpful to close other programs on your computer or smart phone so that the software runs most efficiently.
